Lonesome Crow | Heavy Metal Covers Band - Gloucestershire

The Racketeers - a potted history:

Lead vocalist Robin and bass player Simon met when they worked at Stroud College. They performed together as The Burke Brothers and formed a short-lived New Wave covers band, The Fabricators, featuring a young looking but rapidly ageing Paul Donovan on drums. Paul was an occasional Burke and also a Mad Ferret.

The band morphed into The Racketeers, featuring a couple of guitarists, one a blues fanatic and the other a Shadows aficionado. Both left, due to “musical differences”, and the current line-up was completed in 2010 when local legend Shaun ‘Kid’ Cook joined, bringing his excellent guitar prowess and much-needed hair to the band.

Since that time the band has gigged extensively at a variety of venues; local pubs and clubs, beer festivals, steam rallies, wedding receptions, birthday parties, charity and corporate events and beer festivals (we like beer festivals). Wherever they play they go down a storm and have attracted many positive comments:

Racketeer: So, do you think we went down well?
Event organiser: Well, nobody grumbled.

Or:

Young German gig-goer: When you came on I thought “they are very old” but when you played I thought “they are also very good”.

The band has an extensive repertoire of songs, specifically from the 1960s and ‘70s. They are very approachable so feel free to ask for a request. You never know; if they know it they might even play it.
